Fire Protection Engineer – NICET Level III Required

Position Description:

  1. Provide technical direction and guidance in the development and supervision of the Fire Protection Design & Engineering Department. As assigned, prepare building fire hazards analysis (FHA) and fire protection design requirements for specific buildings and/or projects.
  2.  Develop and implement effective fire protection designs, drawings and hydraulic calculations for compliance with fire codes, standards, and regulations.
  3.  Provide technical support/guidance to facility management and staff on all fire protection related issues.
  4.  Conduct facility, design drawings, calculations and evaluations for compliance with fire protection codes and standards, identify deficiencies, recommend corrective actions and provide the necessary technical support to resolve issues. Evaluate alternate means and methods for achieving code compliance.
  5.  Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of the National Fire Protection Association Codes.

Entry Level Design Engineer

We are seeking an entry level CAD draftsman who is highly motivated to learn. The ideal candidate should have a strong work ethic and be productive with minimal supervision. We would prefer an experienced draftsman but will also consider entry level candidates. Engineering Degree is a plus but not required. Qualified candidates will have the experience and the ability to perform onsite field surveys and measurements of existing installations, as well as a working knowledge of mathematics. Must have the basic ability to read and interpret drawings/blueprints as well as prior experience using AutoCAD would be helpful. This position is full-time with paid vacation, generous 401(k) retirement plan and health insurance. Salary to be determined with merit reviews at three and six months. The position is located in Des Moines, Iowa.

Union Fire Sprinkler Apprentice

Job Description: Sprinkler fitters are pipefitter specialists in fire protection. They install fire protection systems designed for commercial buildings.

Working Conditions: The job requires a person with the ability to carry heavy pieces of pipe of various lengths, to climb and work at various heights and to have the manual dexterity to handle the tools of the trade. It is hard, dirty work that requires dedicated, intelligent and reliable people who must often travel to different job sites over several counties in the performance of their trade.

Wages & Benefits: Beginning apprentices start at $15.12 per hour. Upon successful completion of required class work and on-the-job hours, wages increase usually every six months, until the journey-level rate is achieved. Benefits include medical, dental and pension.

Length of Apprenticeship: The apprenticeship lasts four to five years. Apprentices must complete a minimum of 144 hours per year of related training and a total of 8,000 hours on-the-job training.

Minimum Qualifications: Apprenticeship applicants must be at least 18 years of age. In addition, they must provide proof of high school graduation or general education development (GED) equivalent.
